These lustrous ruby-red crystals of the Copper Oxide, Cuprite occur near the surface in the Great Australia Mine, Cloncurry in North West Queensland. The transparent cubes of the mineral are interwoven with its fine acicular variety, Chalcotrichite, as well as wires and masses of Native Copper. The largest cube in the image is 5mm on edge.
