The name is 'Crocoite' is
synonomous with the locality 'Dundas' on the West coast of Tasmania. Near the present
mining town of Zeehan, the Red Lead and the Adelaide Mines still produce lovely cabinet
specimens. Without doubt, this locality is noted for the finest of the species found
anywhere in the world. The striking red/orange Lead Chromate crystals occur up to 15cm
long in an iron-rich gossan associated with cerussite. This specimen was collected in 1998 is approx 14cm x 11cm. |
