Elsmore in Northern New South Wales, has produced world-class specimens of the Tin Oxide, Cassiterite. The Cassiterite occurs near the surface as jet-black, lustrous and often twinned crystals scattered throughout a matrix of friable mica and quartz. Mined for its rich tin ore content since last century, the Elsmore deposit is now renowned for its beautiful specimens. The largest crystals on this specimen are up to 2cm across. |
