Aragonite Tindales Quarry, Kyogle, New South Wales Largest xls 30mm |
A road gravel quarry close to the Northern New South Wales town of Kyogle, furnished this specimen of the Calcium Carbonate mineral Aragonite. The 3cm spray nestles in a vugh formed by expanding gases in a molten lava flow millions of years ago. Groundwater later percolated through the basalt and deposited the mineral crystals. |
